Implementation of the EU best practices of waste management

The German federal company Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH commissioned by the Government of Germany in the framework of the global project “Export Initiative for Environmental Technologies”.

The aim of the project is to promote the introduction of EU best practices in solid waste management by providing stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and analytical data while accelerating the development and implementation of regional waste management plans.

One of the main tasks is to strengthen the capacity of decision-makers in the public and private sectors to implement and apply modern environmental technologies and climate change mitigation on a regular basis.

Project activities:

1. Zero Waste Academy deep level

Organization of a training and practical course for local officials on the implementation of new legislation on the ground, writing road maps of local waste management of territorial communities by members of the Academy.

2. Advocacy campaigns at national and regional levels

Communication with key stakeholders on advocacy of European integration bills in draft laws of waste management, including solid waste. Defining the concept of the advocacy campaign and debunking the myths surrounding the problematic issues in the draft laws (e.g. extended producer responsibility).

Communication with local authorities on improving and implementing regional solid waste management plans and composting practices.

3. Development of innovative communication tools

Development of 3D tour and 3D model of the landfill with the help of drones for virtual reality glasses.
